Innovation and Partnership: COVID-19 Exposure Notifications in Washington State

In partnership with the University of Washington, Apple, Google, Microsoft and Microsoft Research, the Brotman Baty Institute, Amazon Web Services, MITRE, the Association of Public Health Laboratories, the Internet Security Research Group, the National Institutes of Health, and the Linux Foundation, the Washington State Department of Health implemented “WA Notify,” a novel, privacy-preserving, exposure notification tool created to complement traditional contract tracing processes.

Dallas County Public Health Disease Surveillance and Investigation System

The Disease Surveillance and Investigation System provided critical data during the COVID-19 pandemic that was critical for monitoring disease trends and providing inputs to inform policy decision-making about interventions to reduce transmission. This system has also been leveraged beyond COVID-19, as it employed the HIMSS Davies Award Case Study Template 2 to address the recent Mpox outbreak. Similarly, the system allowed Dallas County to rapidly begin tracking cases and contacts in Dallas County, providing the ability to identify potential at-risk populations and deploy appropriate public health campaigns.
